Reasons Why Jesus' Kingdom
Has Not Yet Begun
- The Jewish people do not
believe He is their Messiah. (Zechariah 12:10-14)
- The Nation of Israel is
the most despised nation in the world. (Isaiah 60:1-22)
- God's name is not being
set apart around the earth. Thus, we can say that His Kingdom has not
yet begun (Matthew 6:9).
- God's will is not being
done on earth the same way it is being done up in heaven. Therefore, we
can affirm that God's kingdom has not yet begun (Matthew 6:10).
- The House of God Jesus,
the Greater Son of David, will build, does not yet exist upon earth.
Consequently, we can affirm that Christ's Kingdom has not yet begun
(Ezekiel 40:1-46:24).
- The King-Designate told
his followers he would go to a distant country to receive His Kingdom.
When He received it, He would return. The King has not yet returned, so
He has not yet received His Kingdom
(Luke 19:11-12)!
- The profound changes in
topography and nature itself that will take place when Christ returns
have
not taken place (Isaiah 11:6-9; 35:1-10; Ezekiel 47:1-12).
- The wicked are
prospering all over the world (Isaiah 11:1-5; Psalm 2:1-12; Revelation
19:11-21; 2 Thessalonians 1:3-10). This will not be true during
Christ's Kingdom.
- Jesus has not yet
descended from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ have not risen (1
Thess. 4:16). Living Christians who are alive and remain have not yet
been caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the
air, and always be with the Lord (1 Thess. 4:17; Rev. 4:1-2). So, how
can we say the
Kingdom of Christ has already begun? (This event is called the Rapture.)
- The hour of testing that
is about to come upon the whole world to test those
who dwell on the
earth has not yet arrived (Rev. 3:10). That time of testing, also
known
in Scripture as the great tribulation,
tribulation
that has not
occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will has
not yet arrived (Matt. 24:21; Rev. 7:14; Rev. 6:1-19:6). So, how can we
say Christ's Kingdom has already begun?
- The Antichrist,
"the man
of lawlessness" (2 Thess. 2:3) has not yet been revealed. He has not
yet taken his seat in the temple of God displaying himself as being God
(2 Thess. 2:4). This lawless one, after he has been revealed, will the
Lord Himself slay by the breath of His mouth, and will bring to an end
by the appearance of His coming (2 Thess. 2:8). None of that has
happened
yet, so, how can we say that Christ's kingdom has begun?
- During that time of
"Great
Tribulation" an angel will ascend from the east having the seal
of the living God. He will cry out to four angels who will have power
to harm
the earth and the sea, "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees
until we have sealed the slaves of our God on their foreheads." The
number of those who will be sealed is 144,000, 12,000 from each of the
twelve tribes of Israel. These tribes are mentioned: Judah, Reuben,
Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun,
Joseph, and Benjamin (Rev. 7:1-8). I take it that these Jewish slaves
of God will be endowed with God's Spirit to be extraordinarily
effective
evangelists. For after this, John looked, and there was a great
multitude so large they could not be counted. They were from every
nation, and from tribes and peoples and tongues. They were standing
before the throne and the Lamb up in heaven. They were clothed with
white robes and holding palm branches. They cried out with a loud
voice, "Salvation to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb."
(Rev. 7:9-10). One of the 24 elders (Rev. 4:4) asked John, "Those who
are clothed
in white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?" (Rev.
7:13). Since John didn't know, the elder replied, "These are the ones
who come out of the great
tribulation, and they have washed their robes
in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of
God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on
the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. They will hunger no
longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any
heat; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd,
and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe
away every tear." (Rev. 7:14-17). Since none of this has yet happened,
how can we say that Christ's Kingdom, which does not begin until Rev.
20:1-6, has already begun?
- John described what he
saw – a vision of a beast coming up out of the sea. He is the Antichrist.
The dragon (the
Devil)
gave him his power, his throne, and great authority (Rev.
13:1-2). The whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast; they
worshiped the dragon because he gave his authority to the beast; and
they worshiped the beast. They said, "Who is like the beast, and who is
able to wage war with him?" He was given a mouth to speak arrogant
words and blasphemies. He had authority to act for 42 months. He opened
his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His
tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven (Rev. 13:3-6). It was
given to him to make war against the saints, and to conquer them, and
authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given
to him. All
who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose
name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book
of life of the Lamb who
had been slain (Rev. 13:7-9).
A second beast
came up out of the earth. He compelled those dwelling upon the earth to
make an image of the first beast. He was able to give breath to the
image, with the result that the beast could speak and cause as many as
do not worship the beast to be killed! He causes all, the small and the
great, the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be
given a mark on their forehead or on their right hand. No one will be
able to buy or sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name
of the beast or the number of his name. The number of the beast is that
of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six (Rev. 13:11-18).
Since these
things have not yet happened in human history, how can we say the
Kingdom of Christ has begun? It does not begin until Revelation 20:1-6.
- There will be, in that
future time of "Great
Tribulation," two witnesses who will prophesy for
1260 days, clothed in sackcloth. If anyone seeks to harm them, fire
will erupt from their mouths and devour their enemies. They will have
the power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain while they are
prophesying. They will have power over the waters of the earth to turn
them into blood, and to stike the earth with every plague as often as
they desire (Rev. 11:1-6). After they have finished their testimony the
"beast that comes up out of the Abyss"
(the Antichrist),
will make war
with them and kill them. People who dwell on the earth will celebrate
and give one another gifts in their celebrations of the deaths of these
two witnesses. But after three and a half days, the breath of life from
God will come into them, and they will stand on their feet. They
will hear a loud voice from heaven saying, "Come up here." They will
ascend into heaven in a cloud while their enemies below watch them
dumbfounded. In that hour there will be a great earthquake that will
destroy a tenth of the city. 7,000 people will die in the earthquake,
and the rest will be terrified and give glory to the God of heaven
(Rev. 11:7-13). None of this has yet happened, so, how can we say the
Kingdom of Christ has already begun?
- God
revealed to the statesman and prophet Daniel
the substance and interpretation of King
Nebuchadnezzar's dream, a huge statue of metals declining in value
(Dan. 2:31-33). There would be a succession of four great World
Empires, marked by a decline in the authority and power of each Empire.
The fourth Empire, the Roman Empire, was in existence in Jesus' day,
but at the time of the end, it will be resurrected as the Revived
Roman
Empire. Jesus Christ will be the stone that will strike the Revived
Roman Empire on its feet of iron mixed with clay and will crush it
completely (Dan. 2:34-35). The entire statue, representing the major
empires from a Biblical point of view, will be crushed to pieces
at the same time, and will be like chaff blown away by the wind. Then
the stone which struck the statue will become a great mountain that
will fill the earth. That stone is none other than Jesus Christ, who
will strike the earthly empires in existence at His return. He will set
up His kingdom that will engulf the whole world! Earthly kingdoms are
still in existence today and some are very powerful. The Revived
Roman
Empire has not yet been re-established, and the stone has not yet
obliterated it along with all other kingdoms. So, how then can we say
Christ's kingdom has begun?
- One of the seven
heavenly messengers who had the seven bowls of the wrath of God (Rev. 16:1) showed
the Apostle
John the judgment of the Great Prostitute "who sits on many waters,
with whom the kings of the earth committed immorality, and those who
dwell were made drunk with the wine of her immorality" (Rev. 17:1-2).
Several observations can be made about this Prostitute. (1) She represents a dominant false
religion. (She is called a prostitute, and the kings of the
earth and the Earth-Dwellers
commit immorality (porneía, 4202) with her.) (2)
She will be headquartered in a literal city, Babylon (Rev. 17:5,
18; 18:2, 10, 21). (3) For a time
this false religion will exercise enormous political control over the Revived
Roman Empire (the scarlet beast full of blasphemous names,
having seven heads and ten horns). We know this because she sits
astride the beast, a position of power and control (Rev. 17:3). (4) This false religion is very wealthy
(Rev. 17:4). (5) This false religion
will be drunk with the blood of the saints, of the witnesses of Jesus,
and of prophets (Rev. 17:6; 18:24; 19:2). (6) This false religion will gain control,
for a brief time, over the entire globe. This can be concluded
because the waters on which the Prostitute sits represent peoples,
multitudes, nations, and tongues (Rev. 17:15). (7) After a time, the Revived
Roman Empire will turn against this false religion and burn her
with fire (Rev. 17:16). As a result, First, the kings of the earth who have
committed immorality with her will weep and lament over the smoke of
her burning (Rev. 18:9-10). Second,
the merchants of the earth
will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes any more
(Rev. 18:11-16). Third, the mariners of the earth – every
shipmaster, and every passenger, and every sailor will weep and mourn
over her demise, because they can no longer grow wealthy from trading
(Rev. 18:17-19). [Note: This
Prostitute is in direct contrast to the Bride
of Christ, the Church,
who is Holy, and who will inhabit the Holy City, New
Jerusalem for eternity (Rev. 19:7-9; 21:2, 9-11; 22:17). For more
information, read "What
is the Identity of the Great Prostitute in Revelation 17-18?"] None
of these things have been completely fulfilled in history. Though
tendencies are already present, these Scriptures have not yet been
completely fulfilled. How, then, can we say that the Kingdom of Christ
has already begun, when, clearly, in the Book of Revelation, that does
not occur until Rev. 20:1-6?
- The "Horn of Salvation"
God has raised up for Israel in
the house of David
His servant has not
yet provided the following for Israel as
God's holy prophets
have
testified from ancient times:
71
Salvation from our enemies,
And from the hand of all who
hate us;
72 To show mercy to our
fathers,
And to remember His holy
covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to
our father Abraham,
74 To grant us that we,
being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Would serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and
righteousness before Him all our days.
(Luke 1:67-75)
Since
this "Horn of Salvation" has not yet been raised up for Israel in
the
house of David,
God's servant, how can we say the Kingdom of Christ has
already begun?
(Scripture quotation taken
from
the NASB.)
