This
list of Scripture passages dealing with the Millennium
is extensive, but not exhaustive. There are undoubtedly other Scripture
passages that deal with Christ's coming one
thousand year reign upon earth
that are not included here. Some of the passages listed here may be
debatable. In other words, it is not always easy to tell which aspect
of the
kingdom of God
is being targeted. For example, right now Jesus is reigning as King up
in heaven, but He is not yet reigning as King on earth. I have
attempted to exclude passages which can only rightly be interpreted as
referencing his present spiritual kingdom. (Those references to the
Kingdom find their fulfillment in the present era
of grace, in which God has employed his strategy for
redemption in the Church.)
Furthermore, there are passages which clearly relate only to the eternal
coregency of God and Christ in the Eternal
State in New
Jerusalem.
I have excluded those passages. Just as when one views a mountain range
at a distance it appears to be only one line of mountains, yet once one
enters that mountainous area, he sees multiple ranges, so are
prophecies about the Kingdom. Some of those prophecies do double duty.
They refer to the Millennial
Kingdom, but also, in many cases, to the Eternal
Kingdom. So at times there will be overlap.
It
is not difficult to see that massive portions of the Bible,
particularly in the Old Testament, deal with Christ's coming Kingdom
upon Earth.
It is a subject of monumental importance to God, and so it should be to
us. Doubtless many, but not all, of the characteristics of Christ's
kingdom upon this present earth will also be true of His and the
Father's Eternal Kingdom upon New
Earth with New
Jerusalem
as its capital. Notable exceptions in the final form of the kingdom
will be the absence of any temple, sin, or sinners, or the consequences
of sin, such as pain, tears, the curse, death, the sea. Nor will there
be any night in the eternal city (Rev.
21:1-8; 22-27; 22:1-5, 14-15).
Escalating
events in the United States and around the world in the last sixty five
years make it clear to the student of prophecy that we are fast
approaching the time of global
catastrophes predicted so many times in Scripture, outlined
in amazing detail in Revelation
6-18. That means we are not that far from the subsequent return of
Christ in power and glory and His setting up of His Kingdom
here on earth after judging those who survive the catastrophes.
What
a tremendous blessing will accrue to our world when its rightful King
is seated upon His throne in Jerusalem, establishing peace and justice
around the earth! Then "the earth will be full of the knowledge of the
LORD as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah
11:9; Habakkuk 2:14)!
